Election Night, 2008

It appears now at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night that the country has spoken. History has been made it would seem as Barack Obama is about to win this election. So, what now? It is clear
that we are to do what we should already be doing as believers and that is to pray for our leadership. That is what I'll be doing. Understand that I am not pleased with this decision our country has made and am more than a little concerned about our future as a nation.
But, I know that no man can be elected unless God allows it and if God has allowed this, he has a reason.
The landscape of America has most certainly changed tonight and we have interesting days ahead.
So, let's pray and continue to serve the Lord to the best of our ability and may God be glorified.

I feel the same way you do...and have come to realize that maybe I was not praying hard enough for my country...I plan to change that in the future...I have heard more news commentators and spokespeople say today that America needs to pray (really haven't heard that much said on tv, previously) so maybe that is what wasn't happening enough...WE have some exciting days ahead...

Despite the disappointing results, we need to keep our heads up and remember that Almighty God remains in control. His reasons may not always be clear to us, but nothing is accomplished without His consent. Christians can rest in the comfort of knowing that God will never forsake His people, no matter how trying the times might be.

Make no doubt, the times will become difficult. There are a host of people out there who absolutely despise Almighty God and His people. They WILL try to silence us and oppress us. They hate us just as they hated the One we serve. We must remain firm in the Faith, stand up for what is right, never surrender and never compromise what is right.

True leadership requires a firm moral compass founded upon the precepts of Almighty God. It does not involve surrender when the times get tough. True leaders push forward and drive on in the face of adversity, all while keeping their eyes on the ultimate prize.

There will be difficult times ahead. We must continue to pray, seek God's guidance and stand ready to defend what is right. Christians in positions of influence must stand firm and be ready to protect our brethren. This is a commitment that I make. I know that there are millions of others who will take the same stand.

"Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;on that very day their plans come to nothing. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God,the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—the LORD, who remains faithful forever." Psalm 146:3-6

Last Wednesday you said that this could be the best thing that ever happened to us or it could be God's judgement. That struck a strong chord with me and got me thinking how pontless it is to worry about all this.

There is no way for us to determine how the Obama presidency will effect the nation or what legislation will be ratified in the comming term. We can surmise based upon his stated platform, that his ultimate goal is the global sociallization of economies and the universal acceptance of all belief systems as eaqual, but he has no power to affect this change without the help of the congress, the American people and Almighty God allowing it.

There are also no garauntees about how the economy will react, in the short term, to any of Obama’s policies. Germany, for example, had great economic success under Hitler and America suffered poverty and the most loss of American life in history under Lincoln. No, I’m not comparing Obama to either of these men. The point is that immediate circumstances are not a predictor of future results.

Didn’t Jesus tell us not to worry; to let today’s problems suffice for the day? Didn’t He say this would all pass away so that it wouldn’t even come to mind? I’m not diminishing the church’s role in the realm of politics. We should pray for our leaders, get involved in the political process, have healthy and vigorous political debate to convince through the intellect given us by our Creator the superiority of His Truth as it applies to our daily lives, but keep in mind who our King is and where all real power lies.

The solution to all our problems lives within our own hearts and hands. A cursory understanding of history proves this country could not have been created without the hand of Providence upon it. The renewing of the American spirit is tantamount to the revival of its people. If the Church will stand by returning to its knees in prayer that He “might feed a hungry world through” us, no politician, world view, or power of hell could stand against it. I pray for a fresh dose God’s rekindling power in my own heart that I might be a light to all He sends my way. If we all would, we might once more the salt our nation needs to preserve it.
